Ginger for Vertigo:Relieve Nausea related to Vertigo

Posted on by admin

Those who have suffered from vertigo know how utterly debilitating it can be. Imagine the worst motion sickness you’ve ever had, and then imagine it lasting for days, weeks, months, even years. Vertigo is caused by a problem in the vestibular system, which is the complex sensory system of nerves and canals in the inner ear that are responsible for balance and spatial orientation. When this system is disrupted, it can cause feelings of extreme dizziness, nausea and disorientation that make it difficult to walk, work, concentrate, or do much of anything at all.

If you suffer from vertigo, you’ll probably try anything to make the symptoms stop. There are a number of remedies out there, from the Epley and Semont maneuvers, to some more extreme measures, but if you’re looking for a home remedy, particularly for the nausea, you might want to try one of the oldest tricks in the book: ginger.

Ginger root has long been used to alleviate the upset stomach symptoms of vertigo and motion sickness. And it’s perfect for vertigo sufferers looking for a quick remedy because it’s natural and there’s a good chance you already have some around the house. Here are a few ways ginger can help:

Powdered Ginger

Powdered ginger is a good way to get a lot of ginger’s soothing properties into your system fast. You can generally find it wherever vitamins and natural supplements are sold. When you begin feeling the onset of vertigo symptoms, take 1,000 mgs of powdered ginger right away and you should begin feeling some relief in minutes.

Ginger Capsules

If measuring out scoops of powder isn’t your thing, you can also take powdered ginger in capsule form. Although a bit pricier than the granules, ginger capsules are great because you can take them on the go and have them ready whenever you might need them.

TIP: Both capsules and powder can also be used as a preventative measure before the onset of symptoms. 500 mgs every four hours or so can help to keep your symptoms at bay before they have a chance to seriously disrupt your life.

Ginger Tea

Looking for vertigo remedy that’s as delicious as it is soothing? Simply grate or slice 1 Tbsp. of fresh peeled ginger root, steep it in hot water for 10 minutes and add lemon, honey or maple syrup for tasty and comforting relief.

TEA TIP: Lemongrass and cayenne pepper also contain some of the same vertigo soothing properties as ginger, so if you’re looking for a way to spice up your ginger tea, add one, or both of these ingredients to your tea to take it to the next level.

Ginger Ale

For milder vertigo symptoms, a good, strong ginger ale often does the trick. Just make sure you’re drinking one that’s made with real ginger. Also, remember the sodas that are full of sugar and artificial flavoring won’t do much to ease your dizziness.

Ginger Oil

You don’t have to ingest ginger to benefit from its nausea soothing effects. A few drops of ginger oil on the skin around the ears, neck and head can also be effective. One great way to use the oil is to dab a bit on your fingertips and give yourself a nice calming scalp massage—or have your partner do it for you for maximum relaxation.

QUICK TIP: Ginger is excellent for vertigo nausea symptoms, but ingesting large amounts can cause heartburn and stomach aches. So if you do choose to eat or drink ginger regularly to relieve your nausea and dizziness, make sure you take it with some food. A piece of bread or a few bites of something substantial with your capsules, granules or tea will help prevent possible uncomfortable side effects.
